Oral Immunotherapy and the Future of Food Allergy Treatment

Learn from Alice Hoyt, M.D., a board certified allergist, about oral immunotherapy (OIT) and how it can impact children, adults, and families.

Objectives

  1. Describe the differences between IgE-mediated food allergies and other types of food hypersensitivities, and explain why OIT is used primarily for IgE-mediated allergies.

  2. Identify appropriate candidates for oral immunotherapy by integrating clinical history, testing results, and the presence of co-existing conditions that need stabilization.

Assess the potential benefits, limitations, and psychosocial implications of OIT in order to support patients and families in making informed treatment decisions.

*This course awards 1 credit hour upon completion.
